Continuing their Potter countdown, this morning The Los Angeles Times has posted a look at how costume designers designed Horace Slughorn’s wardrobe for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince:
“Jim is not a small, fat man. He is tall and strong,” [costume designer Jany Temime] said. “So we had to change and adapt.” To do that, Temime used all of J.K. Rowling’s atmospheric detail to tell the story of Slughorn through his clothes rather than his size.
She explains: “Everything we did for his costumes was very rich, but also very used, because he’s not a rich man anymore. He hasn’t worked for a long time. He is a bit of a has-been. But his clothes, even if they were from 20 years ago, were once upon a time, very rich and very glamorous. So we went for ‘Old Glamour’ when designing.
The piece is a very interesting read. Check out the whole article right here!
Poesy to begin Deathly Hallows filming shortly
Clemence Poesy was in negotiations to reprise her role as Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Elle magazine is now reporting (test your French) that Clemence is in fact back in England will begin filming the final installment within the next 10 days.

Draco Malfoy, played by actor Tom Felton, has made the list of EW.com’s “31 Hateful TV/Movie Children.” The “Enfants Terrible” list is described as “a ghastly collection of maleficent on-screen minors” that includes such characters as Cartman, Cordelia from Buffy, and Biff from Back to the Future.
Well, yeah, this Slytherin scion has done everything in his power to put the whammy on Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and his mini-Scooby crew since page 1. Plus, he’s blond…and, in movies, blond kids are almost always bad news.
Congratulations Draco Malfoy
Will you be in New York City for the premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? Here’s one event you’ll definitely want to attend:

On Friday, July 10, beginning at 7:00 p.m., Felton, who plays Harry’s arch rival, Draco Malfoy in the film series, will visit the Hot Topic store at the Garden State Plaza and participate in a VIP signing for 750 lucky fans who purchased the special-edition Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince T-shirt.
Starting today, while supplies last, Hot Topic will give fans the opportunity to own the limited-edition Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince T-shirt, available exclusively at the Hot Topic store at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, New Jersey. The first 750 fans to purchase these specially designed T-shirts will receive a wristband, gaining them access to the Hot Topic in-store signing event on July 10, where they will have the opportunity to meet Felton and have him autograph a special Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince poster.
So, if you’re in the Paramus area, get down to that Hot Topic and make sure to purchase the shirt! I’ll see you there in a few weeks! For the full Press Release, click the link below.
If you could, once all of the films are done, take something from the set, what would it be?
In the Weasley household, there is a clock that shows where everybody is. It’s the most beautiful piece of prop-making. Lots of that is unappreciated and you just go on the set and you’re like ‘Oh my God!’ You just want to give it a close-up … The hands are the ends of scissors, and it says things like ’school,’ ‘work’ … and one of the sections says ‘in mortal peril.’ I’d love that. And it doesn’t work, by the way, cause I’ve been in mortal peril and it didn’t say anything. I’ve come back and it just said ‘at work.’
Enjoy the rest of the interview here.
When: Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The Phelps twins also made an appearance on the show. It can be seen on BBC iPlayer for UK fans. If you’re elsewhere in the world, you can watch it online right here.
In the interview, Jessie touches on all aspects of the film including how she initially got the role:
Q: For your final audition, what scene did you get to act out with Rupert?
A: We actually had to improvise for a good 15 or 20 minutes, which is very scary. It’s a really long time. The director, David Yates, was there and he was just like, “Hi. Right. Here’s a plate of biscuits, Jessie. It’s a lovely plate of chocolate biscuits and I want you to do whatever you want with these biscuits.’ Rupert was in the room, sitting on the sofa, and I just thought, ‘What the hell am I going to do with this plate of biscuits?’
Q: What did you end up doing?
A: I thought, ‘I’m just going to go for it.’ And I think Rupert was a bit scared, really. The biscuits were past the sofa, away from me so I kind of just tangled myself around Rupert and just made it really obvious that I didn’t really care about the biscuits. I just wanted to be near him. I think he was quite scared.
They’ve now posted Part 2, which focuses on Quidditch and can be seen at this link! This part is also hosted by Tom Felton and includes interviews with the cast and crew.
Thanks to Kathleen for the tip!
The stream will start on July 7th at 3 PM EST at this link courtesy The Press Association. We’ll also remind you closer to the event.
Emma Watson is Teen Vogue’s August cover star
It’s not uncommon for working actresses Emma’s age to apply to college, but she is quite unique in her determination to give it a serious go. Perhaps that’s because she’s still not 100 percent sure she even wants to be a movie star when she grows up. “There’s not, like, a burning passion in me,” she admits, “that I have to act and I don’t care what I do. Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione—like, I felt that it was life or death—I don’t want to act again.”
Teen Vogue also posted some other features related to Emma’s photoshoot: a behind the scenes gallery, a video, a fashion timeline, and how to get Emma’s style.
[WB President Alan] Horn said he doesn’t expect the soft DVD market to hamper sales of “Half-Blood Prince” because it’s a “unique property.” He believes that although budget-conscious consumers have become more selective about the DVDs they purchase, they have been demonstrating a desire to own big films like “Potter,” “Transformers,” “Twilight” and Warner Bros.’ “The Dark Knight,” which according to The-Numbers.com was 2008’s top DVD with more than 12.7 million units sold domestically.
Although Horn took a lot of flak from “Potter” fans when the studio pushed back the release of “Half-Blood Prince” to July from last November, the move may help boost DVD sales because the film will be released during the heavy gift-buying holiday season.
That last sentence confirms that the Half-Blood Prince DVD will indeed see a release before the holiday season! Thanks to Foss for the tip.
Recently, short clips from the Half-Blood Prince soundtrack have appeared online courtesy of cell phone ringtone websites.
A Potter fan put them all together into a YouTube video, which you can see at this link.
How do you think the soundtrack is shaping up? Let us know in the comments! Thanks to Nataliee for the tip.

JUNE 22
US Official HBP Site UPDATED
David Yates talks Deathly Hallows from the set
Continuing with their series of Potter reports leading up to the release of Half-Blood Prince, the Los Angeles Times now has a piece with Director David Yates:
It was about 3:20 a.m. yesterday when my phone rang: It was David Yates, the soft-spoken British director whose second “Harry Potter” film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” arrives in theaters across America on July 15. He sounded apologetic: “It’s quite early there isn’t it? Thanks for doing this, mate.”
Despite the hour, it was my pleasure to take the call — Yates is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and, after visiting him outside London last year on the set of “Half-Blood Prince,” it was a treat to catch up, even if his schedule required the pre-dawn appointment. Right now, Yates is in the midst of filming the final boy-wizard adventure, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which will be split into two films.
“We’re here in the forest, we’ve just finished the scene where Harry, Hermione and Ron are captured by the Snatchers after being chased through the woods. The Snatchers are brutal and scary but they aren’t the most intelligent of creatures. They’re trying to figure out exactly who it is they’ve caught.”

Additionally, the website shows a nine-minute clip of the first five movies, including never-before-seen scenes from the earlier films, which can be watched here (it is entitled Harry Potter Exclusive – A Retrospective).

Rumor Alert! Tonight we have received word that retailers are beginning to hear about the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD. Apparently the DVD is set to be released during the holiday season in December, 2009 “on 1-Disc, 2-Disc, and 3-Disc DVD/Blu-Ray combo versions.” Even more interesting is the reports say this DVD may possibly, and we stress possibly, contain several sneaks previews or some sort of trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Please Note: Readers will recall of course that with the release of the Order of the Phoenix DVD we did receive two special sneaks at HBP. It is also worth pointing out that you can already sign up to be notified of the availability of the Blu-Ray Disc for Half-Blood Prince here via Amazon. HOWEVER, as exciting as all of this sounds, this is very much unconfirmed and we urge you to keep this in the rumor category for now.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released in theaters July 15, 2009.
Celebrities and VIPs are expected to attend the premiere, though it is not made clear whether or not there will be any Harry Potter talent. We will have much more on this, including the specific venue and guest list, when it is made available.
